2016 vs 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300: Updates to the C-Class
Since the Mercedes-Benz C300 is just a single model within the automaker's C-Class, it makes sense to look at adjustments made to this class as a whole for the 2017 model year. Doing so will give you a better idea of how the C300 has changed with respect to other Mercedes-Benz models. For 2017, the coupe and convertible models in the C-Class, including the C300, got a complete makeover that adjusted the exterior styling. There is also a new Mercedes-AMG C43 that balances the difference between the C300 and the AMG C63. Inside, the C300 and other C-Class models have an expanded console that makes it easier to access the various technologies. You will also appreciate the intuitive controls that are driver-focused and strategically placed within reach.
History of the Mercedes-Benz C300 and C-Class
While the C-Class name would not yet appear for a while, the first Mercedes-Benz model that was directly related to the current C-Class, including the C300, was the Mercedes-Benz 190E that debuted in November of 1982. It was codenamed the W201 and had crisp styling that focused on horizontal lines. In fact, the original W201 was reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz 500SEL executive sedan, but in a smaller form. While the interior was smaller than the average Mercedes, it offered class-leading handling. Initially, it was offered with a 90-horsepower 1.8-liter carbureted 4-cylinder or a 122-horsepower fuel injection version.
This vehicle was followed by the W202 in 1992 with a smoother exterior design and 120-horsepower via the C180. During that time, the C-Class earned its reputation for reliability and a feature-filled, high-quality interior. It offered a range of engines with the AMG versions having the most power, including up to 302 horsepower.
The 2000 model year was the W203 version of the C-Class with the most engines and a newly available three-door hatchback known as the SportCoupe. More recently, a new generation of the C-Class began for 2008 with a heavier and larger body, as well as reworked chassis. The C300 4MATIC was the most popular version of this C-Class generation within the United States.
