Volkswagen Passat: More than Just a Family Car
If you are on the lookout for a new sedan that offers many luxurious variations, the Passat should be at the top of your list. The Volkswagen Passat is a midsize sedan that is perfect for families or anyone who wants a bit more space inside their vehicle. Over the years, the Passat has evolved to become a stylish and feature-filled sedan while maintaining the practicality and reliability that led to its popularity. The Passat is efficient enough to take you around town without worrying about wasting gas thanks to its 34 mpg on the highway fuel efficiency. You will also turn heads wherever you go, particularly with the R-Line model with its sportier bumpers and performance styling cues. Sitting behind the wheel makes it apparent the Passat is designed with the driver in mind. Wherever you go, the Passat makes it easy to stay connected with innovative features like VW Car-Net App-Connect for your smartphone integration and VW Car-Net Guide & Inform to take navigation to the next level with traffic information and more. Safety features like the rear-view camera and available blind spot monitoring, Park Assist, and Lane Assist give you peace of mind at all times. You can truly drive with confidence, as the 2017 Passat earned a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA.
How the 2017 Volkswagen Passat Has Been Updated
Overall, the 2016 and 2017 Volkswagen Passat are very similar, but with expanded trim offerings and features on the most recent model year. The SE trim level adds push-button start and keyless entry to its already extensive list of features. The R-Line features have also been expanded for 2017, now including the standard intuitive Composition Media touchscreen, Blind Spot Monitor, Front Assist, heated front seats, and leatherette seats, many of which were part of the optional Comfort Package on the 2016 Passat. You will also notice that every single 2017 VW Passat now comes standard with Forward Collision Warning plus Autonomous Emergency Braking. In addition to these adjustments to the existing trim levels, the 2017 VW Passat adds a new trim, the V6 SE with Technology Package. This trim is pretty much what it sounds like, combining the features of the SE and Technology Package with the V6 engine. Just some of the included standard features are LED taillights, LED headlights, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and Park Distance Control.
Check out the VW Passat History
The world was first introduced to the Volkswagen Passat in 1973 with the choice of a four-door sedan, a two-door sedan, or similar models with either three or five doors. They all were styled like modern fastbacks. The Passat was also among the most modern European vehicles for families of the time. The 1981 Passat brought in the second generation with a bit more length and the choice of even more body styles, including a saloon, estate/wagon, and hatchback. The 1993 Passat featured a heavy facelift with revisions to nearly every single external panel with the exception of the glasshouse and roof. There were also mild interior revisions and new safety features such as seatbelt pre-tensioners and dual-front airbags. There was another facelift in 2001 that included minor revisions to the taillights, chrome trim, bumpers, and projector-optic headlights. More recently, the 2010 facelift brought the Passat closer to the current model years.
